What Is a Tuck End Box?

A tuck end box is a paperboard carton whose top and bottom close with a flap that tucks inside. It is quick to fold, opens and closes repeatedly without tearing, and gives four clean side panels for print. It is one of the most common retail packs in the UK.

Straight, Reverse or Crash Lock?

Three closures cover most products. The difference is mainly about appearance and how much weight the base carries.

TypeDetailChoose it for
Straight tuck endTop and bottom tuck from the same sideAn unbroken front panel
Reverse tuck endTop tucks from the front, bottom from the backLowest cost, fast to fold

What Products Suit a Tuck End Box?

If a product is heavy for its size, such as a glass candle, a crash lock base and a card insert keep it secure.

  • Lip balms, serums and creams
  • Candles and diffusers
  • Bottled oils and supplements
  • Mugs and small homeware in cube sizes
  • Pens, small electronics and accessories

Printing on Tuck End Boxes

Paperboard is smooth, so it takes small text, barcodes and photographs clearly. White board shows colours at their truest; kraft board gives a natural look for simpler artwork. Every panel can be printed, including the inside of the tuck flap.

How Should You Measure a Tuck End Box?

Tuck end boxes fit closely, so measure carefully. A box that is too loose lets the product slide; too tight and it will not go in.

  1. Take the product's broadest dimensions, counting any lid, dropper or pump head.
  2. Add 1 to 2 mm to the width and depth.
  3. Add 2 to 3 mm to the height.
  4. Tell us whether the product is heavy or fragile.
  5. Send the size, quantity and artwork.

If the product sits inside a larger parcel for posting, a matching outer such as our small corrugated boxes protects it on the way.

Do Tuck End Boxes Need Inserts?

For a product that fills the box, no. For a bottle, jar or anything with an awkward shape, a simple card insert holds it upright and stops it rattling. Inserts are made to fit the inside size and quoted with the box.

What Do Tuck End Boxes Cost?

Tuck end boxes use little board, so print and quantity drive the price. A reverse tuck end with 1 or 2 colour print is the most economical; full colour on every panel costs more. Quantities in the thousands bring the price per box down considerably.

Styles and Features
