What Does a Box Insert Do?

An insert stops products moving. Bottles stay upright, glasses stop knocking together and gift sets arrive arranged the way you packed them. A good insert can replace loose void fill entirely, which makes packing faster and the unboxing tidier.

Which Type of Insert Do You Need?

A quick photo of the products is often all we need to suggest the plainest insert that will do the job.

Divider Grids for Bottles and Jars

A divider grid is made from strips of corrugated board, slotted halfway so they slide together into a grid. Common layouts are 2 x 2, 3 x 2, 3 x 4 and 4 x 6. The cells are sized to the bottle or jar, and the grid sits snugly inside the outer box.

  • Measure the widest point of one item
  • Count the items per box
  • Choose a layout that fits the outer box
  • We size the cells and the grid together

Die Cut Inserts for Gift Sets

For presentation boxes, a die cut insert holds each product in its own shaped opening. It can be plain or printed and sits on a base or a raised tray. It is what makes a gift set look arranged rather than packed.

Ordering Inserts With Boxes

Inserts work best when they are designed with the box. Ordering both together means one set of measurements, one proof and a guaranteed fit. If you already have boxes, send the inside size and we make the insert to suit. For new sets, our gift boxes with matching inserts are a good starting point.

How Do You Measure for an Insert?

  1. Measure the inside of the outer box.
  2. Measure each product at its widest point.
  3. Count how many products go in each box.
  4. Note anything fragile or oddly shaped.
  5. Send the sizes, or a photo with a tape measure.

Which Board Should Inserts Use?

Divider grids are usually single wall corrugated, which is stiff and cushions knocks. Die cut inserts for gift boxes are often E flute or paperboard, which cut cleanly and look neat. Heavier products need thicker board.

What Do Inserts Cost?

Inserts start from £0.20 an insert for simple designs in good quantities. The price depends on the number of cells or cut-outs, the board and the quantity. Inserts ordered with boxes are priced on the same quote.
