What Is Kraft Board?
Kraft is the brown paper used as the outer liner on most corrugated board, and as solid paperboard for cartons. It is unbleached, so it keeps its natural colour. Many brands choose it on purpose: it reads as practical, handmade and unfussy, and it suits simple printing.
Which Kraft Box Style Should You Choose?
Kraft board can be made into any of our styles. The right one depends on how the box is used.

How Does Print Look on Brown Board?
Ink on kraft is slightly translucent, so the brown shows through. Dark colours such as black, navy, deep green and burgundy look strong and clean. Light colours fade into the board, and white needs a heavier layer to show. Fine lines can soften a little on corrugated kraft, so bold shapes work best.
- Black and dark colours: crisp and clear
- Mid tones: look slightly darker than on screen
- Pale colours: low contrast, best avoided for text
- White: possible, but less solid than on white board

Kraft or White Board?
Choose kraft for a natural look and simple artwork. Choose white board when colours must be bright or match brand colours closely, or when the design includes photographs. Some brands combine the two: a kraft outside with a white printed inside.

Are Kraft Boxes Strong?
Kraft liners are tough and resist tearing well. Strength comes from the board grade rather than the colour, so a kraft box in B flute is as strong as any other B flute box. Choose the grade for the load, and the colour for the look.

Kraft boxes start from £0.20 a box. One-colour print on kraft is one of the most economical ways to brand a box, because a single strong colour needs only one set-up.

For gift and hamper boxes, measure the contents arranged as they will sit, including any shred or tissue.

No. Strength comes from the board grade, not the colour of the liner.
